In October 2009, the Tahoe Truckee Flyfishers spent a Sunday working on the 14th Annual Truckee River Day.
Along with 50 or 60 citizens of the watershed, the TTFF worked with group leaders David Lass, Deborah Urich and Jim Schmidt.
The objective was to de-comission two dirt trails creating erosion and silt adjacent to the Little Truckee River and below the Stampede dam.
The day began with 20 or 30 cars decending on the fly fishers parking area just below the Stampede dam.
Consider the amazement of the poor, unsuspecting flyfishers who drove up expecting to drop a fly on a quiet Sunday morning!
Our work group began by walking for 15 minutes downstream and then crossing the LTR at "Frank's Island".
Workers then proceeded to scratch up the dirt on the two trails to be returned to nature.
Native grass seeds were then spread up each trail and this was covered by pine needles.
Large limbs and downed trees were then criss-crossed over the trail. Mission accomplished!
